Learn how to advocate!

A colorful informational guide titled 'RI Advocacy Action Steps' from Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, detailing how to engage in advocacy and submit testimony to the General Assembly. It emphasizes the importance of community involvement in public policy and provides steps for talking to elected officials and submitting testimony.

We believe communities most impacted by public policy have the power to lead and create change. Communities deserve to understand how decisions are made, how to use their voices to influence policy, and how to organize for meaningful change.

To help make this happen, we created a two-page guide to state policy and testifying at the Rhode Island General Assembly!

Aprende a defender tus derechos!

RIght from the Start Campaign

RIght from the Start is a legislative and budget campaign led by eight organizations to advance state policies that help ensure all babies and young children get off to the right start in life, regardless of family income, race, ethnicity, immigration status, or zip code. Rhode Island KIDS COUNT coordinates the campaign and works in partnership with the steering committee: Beautiful Beginnings, Economic Progress Institute, Parents Leading for Educational Equity, RI Association for Infant Mental Health, RI Association for the Education of Young Children, the RI Head Start Association, and the RI Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Parents of young children, early educators, and other organizations are involved as key advisors and champions.

Please visit the RIght from the Start campaign and please see the FY2026 State Policy and Budget Priorities.

The Raising RI Coalition is dedicated to lifting children out of poverty by increasing the RI Works* benefit and to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing parents with education and training opportunities leading to well-paying, secure jobs. Rhode Island KIDS COUNT is a Coalition member.

*RI Works is the state’s cash assistance program for children and their parents or caregivers and a work preparation program for the adults.
